Kolwa is a district outside of Kisumu. There are no paved roads and you hop over the holes in the road on the "boda" (motorcycle taxi) while the green landscape with its vegetable gardens and simple mud houses passes by. Your boda driver tries to avoid the water holes while the children wave and call out to you. This is the place where your fanny pack was sewn.
Tommboya is a district of Kisumu. In the morning you walk through the streets, the sun is still shining pleasantly warm on your skin. You enjoy it, because you know that it will soon become unbearably hot. At the side of the road you come across all kinds of sellers, from bed linen to eggs - you can buy everything on the way. The proud businessmen offer you their goods with a smile. You stroll further through the streets past packed, colorful minibuses, rattling motorbikes and tuk-tuks.

When developing the bum bag, we made sure to use materials that women in Kisumu can buy locally. Of course, this does not mean that the materials are made locally. The fabrics come from Ghana and Nigeria, for example.
The bum bags are produced in Kisumu (Kenya) in a textile center that trains and empowers young women.
